- Choline salicylate is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), whereas lidocaine is a local anaesthetic
- Dologel 15 gm is primarily used to treat mouth ulcers
- Choline salicylate works by blocking the effect of a chemical messenger in your body, known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes that make another chemical 'prostaglandins' (PG)
- These prostaglandins are produced at injury sites and cause pain and swelling
- By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, lesser PGs are produced, which reduces mild to moderate pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site
- Lidocaine blocks the pain signals from the nerves to the brain, thereby helps in decreasing the pain sensations
- Together, Dologel 15 gm helps in treating mouth ulcers.
Description
Dologel is a topical gel used to treat mouth ulcers. It also relieves in pain, swelling, redness, and burning sensation of the ulcers. It contains a combination of two ingredients, choline salicylate and lidocaine (also called lignocaine). Dologel is meant for topical application and should be used as directed by doctor. It should not be swallowed. Do not use it more than the recommended dose.
